The first full trailer of the weather action drama Into The Storm , starring Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit ), has been released and if the short clip is an indication, we may be in for a bumpy ride.

More than 18-years after the super successful disaster movie Twister terrorized audiences all over the world, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. make another attempt at a blockbuster with Into The Storm (previously named Black Sky ), with a lesser known — though not less talented — cast. The British actor Richard Armitage takes a lead role, as Gary Morris, who is a school administrator trying to save kids trapped in school during devastating outbreak.

Armitage — who stands six-feet, two-inches tall — goes from playing a dwarf in The Hobbit trilogy, to a modern action hero, who is caught in the middle of the chaos that arises when a massive tornado hits the fictional town of Silverton. The synopsis for Into The Storm goes like this:

“In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot.

Told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs, and courageous townspeople, Into the Storm throws you directly into the eye of the storm to experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.”

We see big rigs and massive airliners being lifted Into The Storm in this first full trailer and some heart stopping scenes, which are sure to keep people on the edge of their seats. Directed by Steven Quale, with a script by John Swetnam, and produced by Todd Garner, the action film hopes to at least emulate the success of Twister .

For Richard Armitage’s many fans, Into The Storm comes as a welcome change from his recent period piece part as the leader of the dwarves, Thorin Oakenshield, in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy. In comments made to RAFrenzy.com , Todd Garner commented about the 42-year-old’s writing skills:

“He’s an amazing actor but also a terrific writer even though he wouldn’t say that. He has come up with great moments not only for himself and others but for the movie. In fact we just finished shooting a moment he came up with that might be in the trailer.”

Into The Storm starring Richard Armitage, Jeremy Sumpter, and Sarah Wayne Callies heads to theaters on August 8. Watch the trailer here:
