‘Forrest Gump’ ‘Honest Trailer’ Gives A Realistic Take On Tom Hanks’ Hit Drama [Video]

The Forrest Gump “Honest Trailer” from Screen Junkies celebrates the 20th anniversary of Tom Hanks’ hit drama, and shows us pretty much everything we chose to overlook.

In the 90s, Tom Hanks was the actor to go to if you wanted a blockbuster drama. His underwhelming presence combined with a strong acting ability to make him the reason to skip the action films. Apollo 13, Philadelphia, and even the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Green Mile all benefited from starring the versatile actor whose origins in acting were less than proud.

Tom Hanks has come a long way from playing a cross dresser on the 80s sitcom Bosom Buddies.

One of Hanks’ most acclaimed roles was the serendipitous journey through U.S. history as a man with a below average intelligence who went on to become a success in almost everything he did.

Screen JunkiesForrest Gump “Honest Trailer” is now here to show us just how unrealistic the whole movie really was. Bookmarked mostly by scenes of the title character sitting on a park bench and telling his life story to a series of total strangers, he narrates a film full of stereotypes and near miracles.

The video tells us that Gump basically got ahead in life by doing what everybody told him to do, though it did leave out the part where John F. Kennedy got an eyeful of his hindside after the innocent interaction about being shot in the buttocks. When his friends told him to do something, he’d always respond with “Okay,” and never questioned anyone.

Even Gump’s relationship with Jenny was pulled apart, telling us that a below average intelligence boy got his seriously irresponsible girlfriend pregnant because she seduced him. She eventually took him back after getting full-blown AIDS because he’d fathered the only baby she’d somehow ever managed to have.

The Forrest Gump “Honest Trailer” even points out that just by doing what an equally dim friend tells him he ended up becoming the president of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Corporation. This was an idea that even a minor character laughed at.

Thanks to Screen Junkies, we now know just how ridiculous the movie really was.
