Kanye West showed up to the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival this year with wife Kim Kardashian in tow, rocking with the crowd in a much more timely performance than his last time around.
With Kim cheering him on, Kanye stepped onto the stage Friday night almost exactly at his 10 pm scheduled time, much better than his last turn at the annual festival. In 2008, Kanye gave a number of stage demands that prevented him from getting on stage until 4:30 am. Fans turned on West, leading to some bad press for the rapper.
This time, Kanye West also opened up to fans, telling them he didn’t care about hit songs or how often he was played on the radio, The Tennessean noted. West said he instead wanted to see himself as a cultural icon.
“I ain’t going after nobody on the radio,” West said. “I’m going after Shakespeare. I’m going after Walt Disney. I’m going after Howard Hughes. I’m going after Genghis Khan. I’m going after Henry Ford…”
West later called out the media for their relentless coverage of his actions and relationship with Kim.
“How many of y’all don’t give a (expletive) about what the press say?” he asked. “They try to make me look crazy. And the people writing that, I don’t see them performing for 90,000 (people).”
Kanye West even had some moments of humility, saying he was overwhelmed to see such a big turnout.
It could be that marriage has tamed Kanye West a bit. He and Kim Kardashian were just married in a whirlwind affair that included a rehearsal party in Paris followed by nuptials in Florence, Italy.
Family and friends said they big day was beautiful .
“We were all discussing how calm and dream-like the wedding was,” Khloe Kardashian said along with an image she posted from the affair. “The peace in Kim and Kanye was undeniable. We all felt as if they had been married in another lifetime. I have always believed these two are soul mates.”
