‘Uncharted 4’ Story, Details Unveiled At E3 2014

The Uncharted 4 story and a few more details have been revealed at E3 2014. While the Uncharted 4 release date is still unspecified, it is expected to arrive in early 2015.

The story of Uncharted has spanned the globe as Nathan Drake hunts for treasures and mysteries, recruiting various allies in his quest to explore the unknown. In the first game he was revealed as the descendant of Sir Francis Drake, as he explored the Amazon with journalist Elena Fisher and mentor Victor Sullivan. He was on the run from pirates led by Eddy Raja, a man to whom his father had accrued a debt.

The second game brought back the three main characters and put them against a new villain (Zoran Lazarević, a Serbian war criminal) and allied them with Nathan Drake’s love interest Chloe Frazer.

Uncharted 3 increased the number of main villains and gave Chloe and Elena lesser roles.

The story of Uncharted 4 is explained in the following official synopsis:

“The next generation of Nathan Drake will explore what it means when Drake is forced back into the world of thieves. He will embark on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. It’s his greatest adventure yet and will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.”

It appears that the Uncharted 4 story will logically follow what came before and expand on it, but what about the gameplay?

In a video recently released by Naughty Dog, the concept behind the Uncharted 4 gameplay and performance is detailed:

“[We] went to great lengths to try to create this reality, but we were still limited by the amount of overdraw the PS3 could handle. … Now, the PS4 is allowing us to push so much more density. It’s nice to be able to explore something [in previous games] and look back and go, ‘Wow, remember when we couldn’t do any of this?’ It’s kind of neat.

“Gameplay-wise, we’re just going deeper and richer with all the mechanics. It’s still going to be a rollercoaster ride, it’s still going to have that pacing. We still want you on the edge of your seat, but at the same time, we want to make sure that you as players – I, as a player – want to play this thing and feel invested. And we want to make sure we have that with the epic, with the pacing, with the characters that we’re known for.”

With a new level in gameplay and graphics, and an expansion on the original story, Uncharted 4 sounds like it will not disappoint when it arrives next year for the PlayStation 4.
