Taye Diggs Explains Why He’s (Probably) Following You On Twitter

Taye Diggs has gone on a mysterious Twitter following spree, and this week the actor finally explained the reason behind the social media binge.

Back in April, the actor was following just 24 people on Twitter, but after a following spree that lasted two months his numbers have now reached 45,500 followers. The strange spree led to joy among those lucky enough to be followed, and then confusion when many of them realized that they were among tens of thousands.

But now Taye Diggs has spoken out about his Twitter decisions, telling the TODAY Show what many people expected — it wasn’t really him at all.

“I mean I’m embarrassed,” Diggs said. “Everybody was telling me I needed to have more of a presence on Twitter, so I met with this dude that deals in social network.”

Diggs said he directed this new expert to some people he was interested in, and the social media manager took over from there. Many journalists have been followed, including everyone from national NBA writers to local high school correspondents.

Taye Diggs has been in an outspoken mood lately. He recently opened up about the reluctance for Hollywood studios to put money behind so-called “black” movies. Diggs has been involved in a number of successful movies from this genre, including The Best Man Holiday, Brown Sugar, The Best Man, and How Stella Got Her Groove Back, but said it is still a struggle to get Hollywood to back these films.

“Unfortunately, the business is such that as far as studios are concerned, they judge one quote-unquote black movie on how other ‘black’ movies have done, even if they have nothing to do with each other,” he said.

Diggs said he longs for the day when all movies can be judged equally and on only their merits.

“We’ve definitely come a long way. But we’ve got a long way to go,” he said. “It’s too bad we can’t do well on our own merit when it comes to the studios. They don’t like to take risks and, unfortunately, we’re still considered a huge risk, even though I don’t think we are.”

Maybe Taye Diggs can send Hollywood executives a message on Twitter, or have his social media expert to do it for him.
