Ed Sheeran Believes Taylor Swift ‘Owns The US Pop Scene’

Ed Sheeran credits Taylor Swift with his ability to sells records in the US.

Although the singer definitely shouldn’t sell himself short — after all, he has penned a number of fantastic songs — Sheeran believes he wouldn’t have nearly as much success in the United States without a little help from the country music star. In his humble opinion, Swift helped introduce him to an entirely new audience.

According to the Mirror, Ed Sheeran recently opened up about his adoration for Taylor and the help he received from her not too long ago. Were it not for Swift, Sheeran believes it may have taken him quite a while longer to make a musical splash in the US pop scene.

“She owns the US pop scene. She knows how to do it. In England I was a commercially successful artist, but coming into the US as an alternative artist playing shows with Snow Patrol. She not only opened the door into the pop world but showed me how to do it,” Sheeran explained.

During his chat with DJ Zane Lowe, the acclaimed singer-songwriter also touched on the music he used to spin in his younger days. Although his style might suggest he spent a lot of time listening to the likes of R.E.M. or Toad the Wet Sprocket, Sheeran revealed that his taste leaned towards the harder side of the alternative scene.

“In primary school I had Slipknot records and Limp Bizkit, Soil, Tool, I was like proper ‘Kerrang!’ kid. Then as soon as I got to secondary school, my record collection started off with Guns N’ Roses and then I bought Justified in 2002 and everyone thought I was bit odd for that,” Sheeran said.
