Lea Michele Tells Chelsea Handler She Started Drinking As A Toddler [Video]
Lea Michele is currently promoting her memoir and self help book “Brunette Ambition”. Over the last few weeks she’s been gearing up for the book’s release, and has made a number of appearances from book signings in New York, to candid interviews on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live! During her interview with Bravo’s Andy Cohen Michele opened up about her romantic stint with Glee co-star Matthew Morrison, who she dated before the Fox show.
Michele decided to take it up a notch while on Chelsea Handler’s talk show Chelsea Lately. During the interview she spoke about how she started drinking as a toddler. “It makes me seem crazy!” Lea said.
Despite getting an early start on alcohol that doesn’t mean she’s a raging alcoholic. According to Lea Michele it was an innocent glass of wine. She added that trying alcohol as a child could be attributed to her heritage.
“I’m Italian, so it was like, at the dinner table it would be Pellegrino, a jug of soda, and a huge thing of wine. So, everyone was just drinking wine, like it was part of, like, you know, what you would have along with your dinner.”
The way she grew up in her family made for some interesting moments while she was a teenager. Michele said of her wine drinking days:
“Growing up, I’d be having dinner with my boyfriend and his parents, and I’d be like, ‘Where’s the wine? Pass the wine.’ At like 17, and they were like, ‘This girl’s crazy.'”
Although the Glee actress and new author was a fan of wine from an early age, Michele was very clear in explaining the difference in trying wine at a young age and having it at a legal age.
“When they make it so you can have it, then you don’t want it. It’s when they’re like, ‘You can’t have this,’ kids are like, ‘We gotta get that booze.”
Another topic that was on the table for discussion is plastic surgery. In an episode of Glee Lea Michele’s character Rachel contemplates getting a nose job because her nose is too “big” and ethnic looking. This storyline seems to have come out of a real moment for Lea. The actress told Handler that her former agent told her she needed to get a nose job as soon as she turned fifteen.
“Obviously, I didn’t get it done. Wherever she is, she can go f— herself.”
