Louisiana Teacher Allegedly Had Sex With Male Student, Charged With Intentionally Exposing Student To AIDS Virus

A Louisiana high school teacher is scheduled to appear in court today after he allegedly had sex with one of his students. However, that’s not all he did. Things actually took a devastating turn when it was discovered that he also exposed the boy to the AIDS virus.

According to Houma Today, the Terrebonne Parish Police Department arrested 37-year-old Derrick Nesby of New Orleans, Louisiana on Wednesday, May 28. He has been charged with one count of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of intentional exposure to the AIDS virus.

Terrebonne Parish authorities stated that they learned of the allegations on Friday, May 9. An initial formal complaint was brought to a resource officer at H.L. Bourgeois High School, where Nesby teaches. The complaint was based on suspicion that Nesby had a questionable relationship with a student. But on Friday, May 9, the complaint was turned over to detectives.

The formal complaint alleged that the teacher and track coach had been sexually involved with a 16-year-old male student on the track team. Nesby was questioned by police, but later released. As a result of further investigation, police were able to obtain a warrant for his arrest.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Chief of Detectives Malcolm Wolfe issued a public statement about the shocking incident.

“We can establish the fact that there was an encounter that happened,” Wolfe said. “We continued our investigation where we established more evidence that something did happen, and at that point we got a warrant for his arrest.”

Investigators explained that Nesby had only been employed with the school for a year. He was reportedly the student’s track coach.

Nesby in currently in custody with a $500,000 bond. News analyst Chick Foret briefly weighed in with details about the severity of Nesby’s charges.

“Both of these charges are felonies. Both of these charges carry with them the maximum prison sentence of 10 years in prison,” Foret said. “They’re both very serious felonies.”

Nesby denies all of the allegations. The sheriff’s office also indicated that the investigation of the incident would be ongoing. If found guilty of the charges, what do you think Nesby’s punishment should be?
