‘Get On Up’ Trailer Offers Exclusive Look At The Biopic Of James Brown, The Hardest Working Man In Show Business
Newly minted digital magazine Yahoo! Movies has just released an exclusive trailer for Get On Up, the upcoming James Brown biopic due in theaters August 1.
Starring Chadwick Boseman (Jackie Robinson in 42) as the Godfather of Soul, the film tells “a chronicle of James Brown’s rise from extreme poverty to become one of the most influential musicians in history,” per the tagline at the Internet Movie Database. Directed by Tate Taylor (The Help) and penned by Jez and John Henry Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow), Get On Up also stars Viola Davis as Susie Brown, James’s mother, a central figure to the narrative.
Yahoo! Movies Senior Editor Kevin Polowy weighs in:
James Brown’s rocky relationship with his mother takes center stage in the new trailer for Get On Up. A preteen JB is abandoned by his mom, only to see her reappear once he’s claimed worldwide fame and “Hardest Working Man in Show Business” status.
Get On Up looks to tell the inspiring tale of one of the most beloved entertainers ever to grace global culture, a man whose legendary career spanned six decades. That’s a tall order, but this trailer tells us the cast and crew just might be up to the task.
