‘Halo 5’ Developer Claims Video Games Leaks Are ‘Annoying,’ Can ‘Get Someone Fired’

The Halo 5 developers are going on record by saying that news reports surrounding video games leaks are “annoying” and in the worst case scenario someone may lose their job.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, the Halo TV series originally started life as fan fiction written as a Halo movie script. Also, the US Army is working on a new helmet design that looks almost exactly like the Halo helmet used by ODST troopers, although it also resembles the Master Chief in some ways. Unfortunately, the Halo 5: Guardians announcement seems to squash any chance that 343 will be releasing episodic gaming in addition to the Halo TV series. Although, it is still possible that Halo Spartan Ops Season 2 could be combined with the Halo TV series, which is an idea that applies some of the other Xbox Originals TV shows.

The forum NeoGAF has almost become infamous for the number of leaks that show up on there first. For example, a guy posted what he found out about Assassin’s Creed 5 when flying on a commercial jet trip with a video game developer. Not many people believed him at the time but eventually it turned out all of the leaked details were correct.

Because of incidents like these, 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor took to NeoGAF to complain about how video game industry leaks are effecting the business:

“Breaking embargos is not prophecy. Nor does it require any particular skill or insight. Ultimately he is taking or being given information and leaking it, illegally and often erroneously. And he isn’t doing it for some noble or worthy reason. He’s doing it for attention. People, including nice people with kids and families and stuff, work super hard on this stuff and wake up in the morning to find some of their effort blown up. It’s not fun, and for what? So you can have a mildly interesting surprise 8 hours early and lacking context? Or get hyped or disappointed disproportionately? Or get someone fired or someone innocent yelled at? Ok. But it isn’t prophecy, nor ultimately even important. It’s annoying.”

When it comes to the Halo 5 release date for 2015, a NeoGAF leak had already made that claim back in January. Other leaks also talked about further Halo Anniversary editions coming down the pipeline.

Of course, 343 Industries is not above confirming certain details ahead of time. For example, when Halo 5: Guardians was first announced many people wanted to know who the female Spartan was in the art. Not even 24 hours had passed before Halo’s Senior PR Manager Rob Semsey confirmed that “it’s not Palmer and it is not a girl.” The rumors about a Halo 5 Cortana character were also shot down on Twitter:

What do you think about the opinion of this Halo 5 developer?
