Will Smith Should Sue CPS, Nancy Grace Says [Video]

Online rumors that perennially popular star Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett are under investigation by Child Protective Services have caused a stir — and the normally judgmental Nancy Grace has come out swinging… on the side of the Pinkett-Smiths.

The report alleging that Will Smith is being investigated by CPS popped up this week on RadarOnline, and Nancy Grace is pissed.

The HLN host has laid into child welfare authorities, pointing to several cases in which kids have been severely neglected and even murdered as “CPS stood by and twiddled their thumbs.”

In case you missed it, Smith’s daughter Willow was at the center of a controversy after an image of the young teen “in bed” with a much older man went viral.

While the short description sounded very lurid, what we learned later is that both were fully clothed save the man’s absent shirt, the man was a family friend, he and Willow were simply on a bed (not “in bed”), and the Pinkett-Smiths were rightly horrified to learn what people said about the innocent snap.

It’s somewhat unfortunate that the family — who are, by many accounts, happy and incredibly well-adjusted despite their fame — have allegedly drawn the attention of CPS for a non-issue.

Radar said earlier:

“The investigation [into Will Smith by CPS] was formally opened last week and is being taken very seriously by the department… Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have been extremely cooperative with officials. Of course, they aren’t happy that their parenting skills are under scrutiny, but they understand.”

The report relied solely on an anonymous source, and it isn’t clear how much of the commentary was based on knowledge of the investigation — or if it was hearsay.

The source also says Willow will be interrogated separately from her parents, to ensure she’s truly not “in danger” following the picture:

“Social workers will also be talking separately with Willow, and they also want to talk to the young man in the picture with her as well. This won’t just be one or two visits with the family, and it will likely be an open investigation for at least a month, out of an abundance of caution.”

In a Facebook post, the Nancy Grace page writes:

Jada had commented earlier on the furor over the pic, saying at the time:

“Here’s the deal. There was nothing sexual about that picture or that situation. You guys are projecting your trash onto it. You’re acting like covert pedophiles and that’s not cool.”

As of now, the report regarding Will Smith and Jada allegedly being investigated by CPS is still unconfirmed — but Nancy Grace believes the power couple should look into legal action against California’s Department of Children and Family Services.
