Mariah Carey Announces New Album

It’s been about five years since R&B pop star Mariah Carey released a new album, not counting Christmas albums. But Mariah is back with an all new full length album titled Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse.

Mariah recently appeared on TODAY to perform songs off the new LP. According to Today.com, the title of the album was inspired by a self-portrait that Mariah made when she was only three years old. Carey’s mother saved the picture and it now appears on the back of the album art. Carey described the album as a “cohesive body of work” to TODAY, explaining that the project came from “that little girl and who she was and all that it has taken to kind of feel like a complete person.”

The new album Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse will feature Carey’s hit single “Thirsty,” among many others. Here is the official track listing:

1. “Cry”
2. “Faded”
3. “Dedicated” Featuring Nas
4. “#Beautiful” Featuring Miguel
5. “Thirsty”
6. “Make It Look Good”
7. “You’re Mine (Eternal)”
8. “You Don’t Know What To Do” Featuring Wale
9. “Supernatural”
10. “Meteorite”
11. “Camouflage”
12. “Money ($ * / …)” Featuring Fabolous
13. “One More Try”
14. “Heavenly (No Ways Tired/Can’t Give Up Now)?”
15. “It’s a Wrap” Featuring Mary J. Blige

According to the Daily Mail, Carey appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman to talk about the album.

“It was a creative visualisation of how I saw myself with the purity of a child’s heart, before it was ever broken. I’ve kept this drawing private for so long, but because this album is a reflection of some of the peaks and valleys that have made me who I am today, I’ve decided to share it with those of you who actually care and have been here for me through it all.”

Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse will be available online and in stores on May 27.

Mariah Carey will also be appearing in a special TODAY segment titled “Me. I Am Mariah.” Carey will be talking to Matt Lauer about her life with her husband Nick Cannon, host of America’s Got Talent, and her experiences as a mom of 3-year-old twins. Despite some recent rumors that Mariah would soon be divorcing Nick Cannon, the two claim to be as happy as ever. Cannon told TODAY, “It truly is a family. It doesn’t matter what goes on outside of our household. As long as everything inside is tight and we enjoy it and embrace that union, and that foundation that we’ve built.” The special will air on May 31 at 8pm on NBC.
