A Groomsmen Rescue At Wedding Changes Meaning Of ‘Best Man’ [Video]

Groomsmen wasted no time in the dramatic rescue of a stranded fisherman in Queensland, Australia. While the bride and groom were posing with the groomsmen and bridesmaids for photos on the beach, the videographer noticed something wrong in the ocean water. The group noticed a small boat overturned, leaving a fisherman desperate for help.

Groomsmen, Dougal “Doogs” Grey and Clayton “Deani” Deane, broke away from their photos with newlyweds Aaron and Jo-Anne Easterbrook to rescue the fisherman. They immediately threw off their suits and stripped down to their underwear before diving in to save the man.

Jo-Anne recalled how the groomsmen rescue happened:

“Deani was first. They helped the guy then went back to get the boat and outboard motor, and all the other bits and pieces that were in the boat like fuel containers and tackle boxes.”

Easterbrook described the fisherman as naturally being “shocked” and “exhausted” after being saved by the groomsmen. The rescue was successful and Deani and Doogs are now famous for their dramatic act in helping the fisherman. Had they not intervened when they did, the fisherman may have hit nearby rocks and not survived the harrowing event.

After the groomsmen came back from the intense rescue, they continued on with the wedding photo shoot — in their underwear. It wasn’t exactly what any bride would have planned, but Jo-Anne didn’t mind. She was proud of the heroic effort Deani and Doogs put into the fisherman’s rescue. Everyone was happy and definitely had a unique story to tell!

Easterbrook said of the ordeal:

“It was just an extra story to add, we had a few hiccups leading up to the wedding. It was one we definitely had a good laugh about at the reception.”

A lot of wedding stories pop up in the news. While it’s true not a lot of groomsmen go around making it a mission to rescue someone, there are other noteworthy experiences. Inquisitr once reported on a bride and groom posing for photos and everyone fell into a Georgia lake. The scenarios are endless with wedding stories that have nothing to do with a rescue and everything to do with chaos. Take the one about a groom forgetting to book a venue for the wedding, so he makes a bomb threat to clear it out!

Perhaps the most feel-good headline of the week in trending news is the impressive fisherman rescue by two groomsmen. The world loves a hero and this good deed saved the man’s life.
