These Heartwarming Photos Prove That Good Cops Still Exist Today. The Last Picture Will Bring You To Tears

Society seems to be developing a growing mistrust of our police officers. With all the terrible cases of abusive cops dominating the everyday news, it is only reasonable for some people to be dismayed with how some of our officers are acting in public. Because there have been so many instances of cops abusing their powers recently, many people are actively expressing their disappointment on what they perceive as terrifying misconduct of people in uniform.

Nevertheless, good cops do exist, and there are still plenty of them around the world. Sadly, they don’t get as much coverage as bad cops do. So this time, let’s give them the attention they deserve. Here are some photos to celebrate the goodness of many of our police officers:

That cool kid is Gage Hancock-Stevens. Gage is battling optic glioma brain tumor, but that didn’t stop him from stopping crimes. Through the Make-A-Wish foundation, Gage was given the opportunity to be a cop for a week, accompanying real-life officers in their day-to-day activities. The Bellevue Police Department was more than happy to bring in Gage to the team. The department arranged a mock burglary, toured Gage in a forensics lab and even had him aboard a chopper, where the young cop was able to fly above the city. During the end of the course, he was inducted as an honorary police officer by Bellevue police chief Linda Pillo.

Here is good cop from India buying a homeless girl a shirt. Not much is known about how this act of kindness started, but many on Reddit expressed their appreciation for the kind-hearted police officer. Redditor guavainindia commented:

“As someone who lived in India, and learned to dread the police, this photo got me choked up. The police are almost expected to be harsh and corrupt, so to see such beautiful kindness gives me genuine hope for the future of the country. I hope his kindness spreads.”

People are especially wary of the NYPD, given the recent incidents of abuse involving the New York’s finest. But this cop gives you one of many reasons to believe that there are many kind-hearted police officers in New York. This picture above, which was taken by tourist Jennifer Foster, captured the heartwarming moment of an NYPD cop buying a homeless man a pair of shoes during a particularly cold night in the city.

This good cop in Toronto was captured by a passersby tying the shoelace of an elderly man, who presumably couldn’t physically do it himself due to old age. Jason Cassidy, who took this touching photo, thought the cop was searching him for drugs or guns. Only when he went nearer did he realize that the officer was in fact helping the old man with his shoelace.

This cop from Baltimore won people’s hearts when he rescued and adopted a stray kitten. This kind (and handsome) cop says rescuing the little feline is just one of the “million things” he and his colleagues do for the community.

A kind police officer helping a blind man across the street. ’nuff said!

This heroic cop handcuffed himself to a woman attempting suicide in Beijing. According to Huffington Post, the woman was moments away from jumping when the officer swiftly cuffed the lady to his wrist.

The police dog above served the Plymouth Police Department for two years. Last year, it was discovered that the dog, named Kaiser, had severe kidney disease. Too old and too sick to continue its service, the dog was brought to the vet, where he will be put to rest. The department, whose work was made easier by this police dog’s service, made a simple ceremony as the dog walked his final walk outside the police department. The picture above perfectly captures the deep sense of gratitude these cops had for their department’s old K9.

The picture above doesn’t seem to show much, but the story behind it will bring you to tears. The police officer above, Jeremy Henwood, was about to get his dinner from McDonalds when a boy entered to get his own. Noticing that the child didn’t have enough money even for the cheapest meal, Henwood decided to make someone’s day and buy the kid a dinner.

Moments later, shortly after exiting the McDonalds branch, Henwood, a model police officer and war veteran, was shot in the head with a shotgun by a stranger. He died the next day.
