Back in March, the man was featured on a video from YouTube personality Magic of Rahat, who gave the man a “winning” lottery ticket. The ticket wasn’t really a winner, but instead a way for Rahat to give the man $1,000 in cash.
But Eric’s reaction sent the video viral. As his eyes filled with tears, the homeless man actually tried to share some of the money with Rahat.
“I want to share it,” he said. “This right here is enough for me. I would like to share it with you, big guy.”
Rahat didn’t accept the money, but the touching moment inspired thousands of other people to reach out and help Eric. An online fundraiser was set up for him, pulling together $44,000.
Rahat used the money to give the homeless man a home of his own, paying for rent, utilities, cable, and internet for an entire year.
But always one with a flair for the dramatic, Rahat decided to surprise the homeless man with the gift. In the video, Eric boasted about how he finally landed a job, so Rahat offered to take him to dinner to celebrate.
On the way, Rahat told the man he needed to stop by his house to pick something up, and invited Eric inside to see the place.
That was when he dropped the good news.
“I have got to be honest with you, this isn’t really my house,” he says in the video. “This is your house.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me right?” Eric said, clearly in shock, before going in for a hug. “Oh my God! Are you serious?!”
Video of the homeless man who gets a home was an instant hit, racking up tens of thousands of views on YouTube per hour and getting picked up by news outlets nationwide.
