David Letterman Divorce: Wife Regina Reportedly Never Got Over Cheating Scandal

David Letterman and wife Regina are reportedly headed for divorce, the lingering result of a cheating scandal that erupted in 2009.

Five years ago, the Late Show host admitted to having affairs with several of his female staffers, but at the time his wife stood by his side. David and Regina have a 10-year-old son named David, and reportedly tried to repair the marriage for the sake of the family.

But sources now say that David Letterman is headed to divorce after all, with Regina finally giving up on the marriage. A source quoted in the gossip blog CelebDirtyLaundry said that Regina is waiting until after Letterman retires from the Late Show next year.

“I believe Regina’s had it and wants out,” a source said. “But I think she would wait until he ‘retires’ before she hits him with divorce papers so he won’t have to go through another scandal on the show.”

If Letterman is indeed getting a divorce, it would seem there were signs pointing to the split. In a January 2013 interview, Letterman revealed that he wasn’t sure if his wife would even stick by him after the initial admission of his affairs.

David said he spent a number of months sleeping on the couch and “a wide variety of places” in the house after his wife kicked him out of the bedroom.

“I have no one to blame but myself,” Letterman said in an interview on Oprah’s Next Chapter. “I think if you’re going to have a flow chart of the responsibility for this circumstance, this sex scandal, my name is at the top. I’m not sure what it means, but I’m taking responsibly for it, trying to atone for it.”

Despite the reports, David Letterman has not commented on the divorce rumors, nor has his wife Regina.
