May The Fourth Be With You: Darth Vader Is Everywhere On Star Wars Day

The force is strong with this one.

Whether it be tossing the first pitch out at a baseball game, breaking world records or running for mayor in the Ukraine, Darth Vader is everywhere on Star Wars Day. The most renowned villain in movie history has popped up worldwide as part of the May 4th celebration of Star Wars.

First, the Sith Lord was seen throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Brewers-Reds game in Cincinnati on Friday night. However, there must have been a disturbance in the force, because Vader’s pitch came up lame. As Fox Sports reported, via MSN, “clearly, that was not the pitch he was looking for. And the power of the dark side must have overpowered the Reds during the game as they lost to the Brewers 2-0.”

Next, Vader was the subject of a massive Lego sculpture created by Lego Build Master and Star Wars fanatic Dan Steininge. According to the Daily Mail, “Steininge flew into Australia from the US to break the world record for the largest Darth Vader and Yoda figures ever created with the colourful building blocks. His Darth Vader figure stood at four metres high and Yoda at two metres – an impressive feat for the 58-year-old who gets ‘paid to play’.”

Finally, Darth Vader has been spotted as an active member of the political community. As reported by Inquistr, a man dressed in a Darth Vader costume appeared at protests for Ukranian Presidential elections last month and even tried to run for President. And while his name was denied on the ballot, it seems Darth Vader will finally be getting his shot at holding a political office.

According to a report by NBC News, Darth Vader is actually running for mayor in the Ukraine:

“Voters in Odessa and Ukraine’s capital Kiev will be given the chance to vote for ‘Darth Nikolayevich Vader’ in mayoral elections scheduled for May 25, according to a representative of the Sith Lord’s party. Darth Vader is standing for the Internet Party of Ukraine, whose goal is to fight bureaucracy in state institutions.”

Not known for his ability to fight government bureaucracy, his character, whose real name is Anakin Skywalker, is most famously known for instituting government bureaucracy as he aided in the forced overthrow of the Galactic Senate by the insidious Emperor. But apparently that fact was easily overlooked by a people looking to fight oppression from their own leaders.

According to NBC, the spokesman for the Internet Party who is backing Vader as their candidate, maintained that their candidate’s name was indeed Darth Vader. Their website carries the slogan: “Darth Vader –- a candidate with a human face!”
