‘X-Men: Apocalypse’: What Might Happen In The Next Film

X-Men: Apocalypse could start filming any time now, with X-Men: DOFP only a week away, and with rumors already swirling about the cast and potential spinoffs, it could be a launching pad for the next wave. Much like Marvel has been doing for years now, the X-Men franchise may be turning into a series of spinoffs between major ensemble releases.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, X-Men: Apocalypse will be a direct sequel to First Class, not including any of the older actors from the series. We imagine Bishop might still make a comeback, though. The founder of the mutant resistance from the future in the latest film has the ability to travel through time, making it a perfect opportunity to introduce Cable, Cyclops’ son. Of course with the continuity the way it is now, Cable might be Cyclops’ nephew if he makes an appearance.

Cyclops was dead by the end of The Last Stand, and it’s doubtful they found a way to bring him back, though James Marsden did express interest in coming back. It’s even more doubtful that Cyclops would even be in the movie, but the introduction of Cable could open up an opportunity to bring in Deadpool for at least a cameo in a full red and black suit.

Another possibility for X-Men: Apocalypse is the chance to finally reveal the named mutant, a character that X-Men: Evolution teased right up to the end before it was canceled. The fans would love to actually see him brought to life on the big screen, and it might add to Magneto’s villain status to have him actively searching him out like he did with Phoenix.

The search for Apocalypse would be the basis for a great ongoing team battle with Professor Xavier and his X-Men attempting to stop Magneto from unearthing the legendary first mutant. Apocalypse (abandoned, rediscovered and named En Sabah Nur) was the most powerful mutant of his time, rivaling the destructive abilities of Phoenix as he exercised his tribe’s belief in survival of the fittest. It only makes sense that Magneto would seek him out to help rid the planet of the non-mutants and end the war violently.

This would of course be where Magneto discovers he’s in over his head as Apocalypse starts killing off the less powerful members of the Brotherhood, and it might take Cable and Deadpool to at least temporarily stop him. Being thousands of years old, it’s doubtful that he could be killed easily, and he might come back in later films.
