Alexa Ray Joel, the daughter of musician Billy Joel, collapsed during her sold out concert over the weekend. The incident happened on Saturday night while Alexa Ray was on stage during her show at the Cafe Carlyle in New York City.
Daughter of Billy Joel and model Christie Brinkley, Joel reportedly passed out during the half point of her set, and was immediately rushed to the ER at New York Presbyterian Hospital. While at the hospital Alexa Ray Joel was then diagnosed with a condition called vasovagal synocope. The condition involves the blockage of blood to properly flow to the brain. Fortunately it’s said that her diagnosis will not need any further medical treatment.
Currently Alexa Ray Joel is recovering from fainting at her gig People magazine. Joel’s rep also contacted the magazine to give a statement on behalf of the budding singer.
“Ms. Joel was taken ill earlier in the afternoon and announced from stage that she pulled out her back and neck, but wanted the show to go on.”
In addition to her rep’s statement Alexa spoke to the magazine to thank her fans for coming out to the show.
“I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to support me. I was excited and determined to fulfill my final performance and I really wanted to end my run with a band, but this was not what I had in mind and hope I have the opportunity to make it up to the wonderful audience very soon. Thanks for all the concern.”
Aside from her last gig at the cafe, Joel seems to have had a successful run as a solo musician, earning rave reviews and modest success which is something seeing as it’s probably easier to live in the shadow of her world renowned famous dad. Before Alexa Ray Joel released a statement, her mother Christie Brinkley tweeted out a stellar review of her first show at Cafe Carlyle which was held on Tuesday. The NY Times review said of Joel’s show:
“Her original work, which can be heard on a six-song EP from 2006, “Sketches” (Audio Bee), and on several singles, is firmly grounded in a pop tradition in which streams converge, from gospel to Tin Pan Alley. The songs are bluntly melodic, lyrically direct and catchy. Her ballad “Night Fantasy,” the only original song she performed on Tuesday, is not on the EP.”
So far it’s not certain when Joel will tour again.
