Lupita Nyong’o Is The Face Of Lancôme

We’ve been waiting to see what was next for Lupita Nyong’o. Since her breakout role in her debut feature film 12 Years a Slave, many wondered what her next role would be, and if she would turn out another great performance. Well, it looks like we will still have to wait to see but we at least now we know what Lupita has in the works.

According to Vanity Fair, Lupita Nyong’o is the next face of Lancôme. This isn’t too much of a surprise seeing as Lupita has started trends in the past. Her Oscar Clarins lip balm sold out overnight after she decided to hand it to Ellen during the ceremony. In addition her Instagram manicured nails was a trend during the red carpet season. It was only a matter of time before Nyong’o would take her trend setting ways to a brand.

Lupita Nyong’o isn’t alone in being the face for Lancôme. In the past celebrities such as Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, and Penelope Cruz have lent a helping hand to support the brand. As its new ambassador, Lupita spoke about her decision to front the company, telling Women’s Wear Daily:

“What appealed to me about Lancôme is that they’re not dictating what beauty is. What they do supports something that already is — and that was appealing to me, too. It’s what drew me to them. Hopefully it’s a symbiotic relationship — that I benefit from being associated with them, and they benefit from being associated with me, as well. And for the consumer at large, I think Lancôme has a range of products for every woman, and I think having me will expand people’s understanding of, hopefully, what Lancôme stands for, who Lancôme is for.”

In the past Lupita Nyong’o has been very open about her views on how many pressures women, specifically African-Americans, experience trying to fit into a mold. During the 7th annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon, Lupita said:

“I remember a time when I too felt unbeautiful. I put on the TV and only saw pale skin. I got teased and taunted about my night-shaded skin. And my one prayer to God, the miracle worker, was that I would wake up lighter-skinned.”

Last we heard of Nyong’o she was possibly circling a role in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII. In addition to her role in 12 Years a Slave, the actress had a small role in this year’s action film Non-Stop.
