Fans can watch the North Carolina vs. Iowa State basketball game live online as the Big 12 champion tries to knock off one of college basketball most storied programs for a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
The Iowa State Cyclones made short work of the second round of the NCAA tournament, setting up a showdown with No. 6 North Carolina. The Cyclones have now advanced to the Round of 32 in three straight appearances, but to make it four they will have to overcome a key injury.
Forward Georges Niang broke his right hand in Friday’s 93-75 win over North Carolina Central. It is a blow for Iowa State, who haven’t reached the Sweet Sixteen since 2000, but the Cyclones said they aren’t too worried.
“Somebody will step up. They always do in situations like this,” said coach Fred Hoiberg.
The game kicks off Friday at 5:15 pm from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Fans who watch the North Carolina vs. Iowa State basketball game live online will see a Tar Heels team looking to avenge a third round loss last year.
North Carolina coach Roy Williams said he isn’t too happy about the injury to Niang, however.
“Coach (Dean) Smith used to say he hated to play somebody when they just lost one of their front line players because everybody banded together even more and were more motivated and all that kind of thing,” Williams said. “So hate it for that reason, too.”
The game will likely be very fast paced. Both the Tar Heels and Cyclones like to push the ball, which could make for a high-scoring affair.
“It will make it interesting,” said UNC guard Marcus Paige. “We haven’t had that many games, I can probably only name a few, where teams have tried to run us. So it will be definitely something to watch.”
