Iggy Azalea Opens Up About Her Obsession With ‘Clueless’

Iggy Azalea obviously loves the classic 1995 comedy Clueless.

The Australian singer (born Amethyst Amelia Kelly) recently unveiled the music video for her tune “Fancy,” a clip that finds Azalea rocking outfits made famous in the aforementioned motion picture. In case you were wondering, Iggy is an enormous fan of the film.

According to Hollywire, Iggy Azalea always wanted to use the motion picture as inspiration for a music video. In short: Getting to remake writer-director Amy Heckerling’s flick was nothing short of a dream come true.

Azalea recently explained:

“It’s been a dream of mine forever. I always said to my friends, ‘Wouldn’t it be so cool if someone remade ‘Clueless’? Why hasn’t anyone done that yet properly?’ I’ve seen that done a lot, but to me it looks like Tumblr, 90s throwback. I’ve been looking for an excuse for a while and I felt like ‘Fancy’ was the perfect song. I can picture Cher listening to ‘Fancy.'”

In Iggy’s humble opinion, every girl wants to dress up like Alicia Silverstone’s character at one point or another during their lifetime. Those who feel the need to disagree with that declaration are obviously not in touch with their inner Cher.

“I think all girls do, even a little bit, even if you deny it, you want to. I’ve just been looking for an excuse and ‘Fancy’ seems like an excuse. ‘Fancy’ to me seemed like the kind of song that Cher would listen to,” she recently told MTV News.

If you have neither the time nor the energy to sit through the entire video, then feast your eyes upon the image embedded below.

For those of you who really want to see how Iggy Azalea compares to Alicia Silverstone, here’s the clip featuring all of that cheeky 90s nostalgia. Folks who saw this flick in theaters back in the day probably feel pretty old right now, this writer included.

Not surprisingly, Iggy has a new record headed to retail shelves in the coming weeks. According to Rap-Up, Azalea’s album The New Classic is presently scheduled to arrive on April 22. In addition to “Fancy” collaborator Charli XCX, Rita Ora and Mavado make guest appearances on the album.
