Rift Patch 1.3 Up And Running After A Shaky Start

Things are a bit more player friendly on Thursday for Rift fans. Today saw things running smoothly for the most part, with only one mid afternoon server restart, to fix an issue that disabled the all important “Looking for group” interface. To their credit Trion is very efficient with their hot fixes and more often than not downtime is usually 30 minutes or less.

The “Waves of Madness” update, also known as patch 1.3, got off to a shaky launch yesterday, with an extensive delay followed by several extended server restarts to hot-fix game issues.

While patch days have always been difficult for many of the popular MMOS, overall Trion has done a relatively solid job getting Rift up and running. The game looks great and is eminently playable. Add to that, a subscriber base that continues to grow after four months and you have an exciting new MMO that promises to be a major success.

“Waves of Madness’ has introduced more excitement to the game, with many new PVP quests and a 6 week long world event. The world event features daily quests and in game events that will grow more challenging with each passing week.

The much touted Hammerknell 20 man raid instance is due to unlock after the completion of week 4 of the world event. While this has some players stamping their feet impatiently, it does allow the world event to slowly build in importance and drama until its final explosive conclusion.

Players will just have to content themselves with lots of exciting new quests and tons of great new loot items until they can finally roll into Hammerknell and pit themselves against the horrors that await them inside.
