Andrew Garfield Refused To Appear With Batkid At Oscars [Report]

Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield allegedly refused to appear on stage with “Batkid” Miles Scott at the Academy Awards.

You may remember that back in November, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and hundreds of volunteers made Miles, age 5, Batkid for a day in San Francisco. Miles has leukemia. The heartwarming story made national headlines.

According to what a source told the New York Post, in another Make-A-Wish initiative, Garfield was supposed to appoint Miles an “official superhero” during the Oscar broadcast on Sunday night. The actor, however, reportedly copped an attitude about the script during the dress rehearsal:

Garfield refused to go by the script. He came up with his own lines. The producers felt that Garfield’s [rewrites] were not appropriate. Garfield had a tantrum. He stormed off. Miles and his family, who were at the rehearsal, were devastated.”

The producers decided to drop the whole idea and reportedly sent Miles and his family on an expense-paid visit to Disneyland instead. Captain America star Chris Evans received a call at the last minute to substitute for Andrew Garfield as an Academy Awards presenter. “He got the call pretty much the day of that he’d have to go on. Chris hadn’t been planning on even going to the Oscars.”

Garfield’s representatives have yet to make an official comment on what happened, if anything, in relation to the Batkid presentation at the Oscars..

The British actor played Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network and Spider-Man/Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), a reboot of the Marvel franchise. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Garfield continuing in the title role is scheduled to hit the movie screens on May 2.

Garfield would by no means be the only temperamental entertainer in Hollywood. If this story about Andrew Garfield and Batkid at the Oscars turns out to be accurate, however, does it change your opinion of the actor?
