Miley Cyrus Turns Down Prom Date Request, But There’s A Catch
Miley Cyrus is the latest famous face to receive a date request from a fan.
Since it’s relatively easy to make contact with your favorite celebrity thanks to the power of social media, fans often utilize the medium as a way to score dates with someone who’s generally too busy for such stuff. It doesn’t work out all the time — just ask Kate Upton fan Jake Davidson — but it’s always worth a shot. After all, this is how Corporal Kelsey de Santis landed a date with Justin Timberlake.
High school student Matt Peterson is the latest person to request a date from someone with an immediately recognizable mug. The teenager recently uploaded a video to YouTube in hopes of taking professional twerker Miley Cyrus to the prom. Unfortunately, she’s a little busy with her upcoming tour at the moment to attend the event.
To Peterson’s credit, he certainly puts his best foot forward. This isn’t some random guy who just wants to take Cyrus to the prom because of her celebrity status — he’s actually a huge fan of the singer. His video includes footage of him bursting into tears after meeting Miley in 2009.
Shortly after that emotional encounter, Cyrus took a moment during a concert to say hello to Matt. Peterson clearly hoped this would convince the singer to accompany him to the prom.
“Those tears were super manly, right? As you can see, we’ve had some great memories together. But I’m ready to make some more,” he explains in the clip.
He adds, “Miley Cyrus, will you go to prom with me? I promise you it will be the best night of your life. And if you aren’t the slow dancing type, no worries. I go to public school and grinding is allowed.”
Although Miley Cyrus can’t attend the event as Peterson’s date, she offered up the next best thing: A chance to hang out with her at an upcoming show. The singer recently extended the offer to one of her biggest fans on Twitter.
Dear Matt Peterson, I don't think I'll be able to make it to prom BUT why don't you come to my AZ show & hang w me? Don't forget a corsage

Not surprisingly, Patterson is very excited about the opportunity.

While everything worked out between Miley Cyrus and Matt Peterson in the end, she effectively set a very dangerous precedent. Fans are likely to flood their favorite celebrities with all sorts of requests and demands. When these famous folks aren’t as generous as Cyrus, things could get ugly.
