Game Day Must Haves: What Every Super Bowl Party Needs

The Super Bowl is this coming Sunday, February 2 and people not only get together to watch the final game of the NFL season — which crowns the best team in the league — but to eat some great food. We look at some must-have snacks to make your party a success.

With all the talk about eating healthy and watching calories, there are some days you just need to indulge, but you can mix things up with some less fatty items for the more health conscious guest.

A good balance is always a rule of thumb for any get together that will probably include people of all sizes, who follow different diets.

You may have vegans to be mindful of, more and more people are stepping away from meats and doing the vegetarian thing or don’t eat meat for other reasons.

To cover all your bases here are some good, easy game day must haves that all your guests can enjoy.

First, you need to make sure you have enough beer. This is a game day staple. If you are hosting a party for couples, or both genders will be attending, try to keep plenty of beer for the guys and other drinks, such as wine, and wine coolers, for those who don’t favor the beer.

Non-alcoholic drinks such as soda, iced tea, and plain water are also a good game day must have for when your guests get tired of the alcohol and simply are thirsty for something else or if you have non-drinking or designated drivers in the group.

Now to the food.

There are several staples any good Super Bowl party must have including chicken wings, which are almost synonyms with the big game. If you are the homemade food type, they are also not that hard to make at home and you don’t even have to fry them. We told you it was easy. Just check out this recipe for oven roasted wings.

Some pizza is not a bad thing to have either, always a popular choice and sure to be gobbled down by hungry game day party comers.

Guacamole is one of the most favorite food consumed during the Super Bowl, and it’s good for you. Making good guacamole is very simple and only requires ripe avocados (buy them ahead of time so they’re nice and soft and if they get ripe a few days before, put them in the fridge to prevent them from becoming rotten), salt, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, and pepper.

Mash the avocados, but leave some chunks and add as much or as little of the rest of the ingredients as you desire. You won’t regret it, your guests will love you for it.

A veggie tray with carrots, celery, broccoli, cucumbers, mushrooms, and any other healthy food you like is also more popular than many admit. For those feeling guilty, eating some veggies, may make them feel better. The dip can be anything from ranch, to blue cheese, or onion dip.

Nachos, queso, quesadillas, cheese and crackers, pigs in a blanket, deviled eggs, pinwheels, black bean dip, the list of game day must haves is almost unending and depends on what kind of food you or your guests prefer, but the ones listed are, almost on their own enough to have a successful party.

Just make sure you have plenty to drink and eat, the two game day must haves and be prepared to have overnight guests.
