Cristiano Ronaldo To Buy New Cars For Team Of Trainers After Ballon D’Or Win

Cristiano Ronaldo had promised Real Madrid’s trainers that he would buy a new car for each one, if he won the Ballon d’Or.

This week, FIFA announced that indeed Ronaldo was the best player of 2013 and awarded him the coveted trophy, following four frustrating years during which the Portuguese striker saw his nemesis, Lionel Messi, take home the “golden ball.”

A very emotional Cristiano Ronaldo accepted the Ballon d’Or from FIFA chief Sepp Blatter — with whom he had a spat for a time in 2013 — and his team of trainers were probably also jumping for joy.

According to reports in Spain, Ronaldo made the promise to buy cars of their choice, as a present for helping to keep him fit and mostly injury free in the last year.

It is almost unanimously agreed that Cristiano Ronaldo deserved to win the Ballon this year, although, many think he won only because Messi was out with an injury for a few months effectively taking him out of the top spot — even though he was among the three finalists.

Ronaldo had a brilliant year, helping Real Madrid become the winnigest Champions League club and leading Portugal to qualify for the World Cup.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or win was shrouded in controversy after FIFA’s boss seemed to side with rival Lionel Messi, whom he praised as he appeared to poke fun at the Real Madrid star.

“One has more expenses for the hairdresser than the other.” Blatter said clearly referring to Ronaldo.

Ronaldo posted on Twitter Blatter’s comments “shows clearly the respect and consideration that FIFA has for me” and then threatened to boycott the ceremony — which took place in Zurich this past Monday, January 13.

Blatter later explained that he wasn’t trying to offend Ronaldo and he thinks that both he and Messi are two of the greatest players soccer has ever seen.

Speculation followed the comments on both sides and Cristiano Ronaldo seemed to be making an effort to minimize the importance of winning the award, clearly trying to keep his expectations low.

In the end, FIFA awarded Cristiano Ronaldo the Ballon d’Or and now a very happy group of hard working trainers will get shiny new cars thanks to the generosity of the Portuguese star.
