Kristen Stewart ‘Terrified’ To Star Alongside Jennifer Lawrence’s Boyfriend

Kristen Stewart has admitted that she is terrified to begin work on her new film, Equals, which will see her star opposite Jennifer Lawrence’s boyfriend, the English actor Nicholas Hoult.

Stewart explained that she is a nervous wreck over starring in the futuristic love story, which comes from the director of Like Crazy, Drake Doremus. The Twilight actress noted, “I can’t believe I agreed to do it.”

Equals has been described as an updated version of George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel, 1984, which revolves around a futuristic society where the all-seeing Big Brother watches over everything that takes place.

The 23-year-old continued, “I’m terrified of it. Though it’s a movie with a really basic concept, it’s overtly ambitious. In Equals, things go wrong because you can’t deny the humanity in everyone. It’s the most devastating story.”

She then proclaimed, “It’s a love story of epic, epic, epic proportion. I’m scared.”

Doremus also waded into the discussion about his sixth film, which is the first that he will direct that he didn’t write, stating, “It’s about love in a world where love really doesn’t exist anymore.” The script for the film comes from Moon’s Nathan Parker.

Stewart noted how she has full trust in Drake’s ability, stating, “I trust Drake’s process and I know we will do something really natural and real. But I told Drake, ‘Don’t expect that I am going to be able to do this. It’s too hard.’ But he wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. I’ve given directors disclaimers before, but never this much’.”

Kristen Stewart beat Hoult’s girlfriend, Jennifer Lawrence to the part, even though the American Hustle actress starred in Doremus’ 2011 drama.

Doremus also noted that Lawrence actually read the script for Equals, but the filmmaker soon realised that he wanted to go in a different direction.

This was despite the fact that Lawrence cried after reading the screenplay. However, she also admitted that she just couldn’t picture herself in the role.

“Jen and I worked together before and she was fantastic,” he said. “It’s exciting to talk about the character with different people, but it became evident in my head that Nick and Kristen would have great chemistry.”

Doremus’ previous work has included the three independent film’s Moonpie, Spooner and Douchebag, as well as the romantic drama, Like Crazy, and the equally well received, Breathe In. Moving forward, Equals is certainly the most ambitious film of the 30-year-old director’s career.

In 2014, Stewart will star in Camp X-Ray, Sils Maria, and Anesthesia as she looks to distance herself from the vampire novels that made her so famous.
