‘The Walking Dead’ Spin-Off Shouldn’t ‘Diminish The Mothership,’ Says AMC

The Walking Dead spin-off is on the tip of everyone’s tongue these days. This is currently putting a lot of pressure on AMC to deliver a show that’s as good as the original.

Although everyone is champing at the bit to get their hands on the spin-off, AMC and executive producers revealed that it could be a little while before the show hits airwaves. The network wants to make sure everything is on-point before they sally forth with the venture.

“What we want to do is not diminish the mothership. What we want to do is find something that everyone involved feels as passionately about as being a unique vehicle and unique enterprise as compared to the original series. We’ll take our time, and we’ll do it right,” AMC chief Charlie Collier recently said about The Walking Dead spin-off.

Fans can’t wait to get their hands on any details about the proposed series, though there’s really nothing to discuss at the moment. Since the new Walking Dead show is still in the early stages of production, getting any concrete information is next to impossible.

“[The spinoff] is really in the incubation stages… What is going on [now] is a more philosophical discussion over why there should be another version of the show,” he said. “Once we answer that, we’ll zero in on the specific creative,” programming head Joel Stillerman explained.

However, one thing is definitely for certain about The Walking Dead spin-off: The story will take place in a standalone world. In other words, don’t expect your favorite characters to stop by for a chat at any point during the series.

“We’re sort of treating the spin-off as a completely separate entity. That was something that was very, very important when the notion of a companion series was even brought up,” executive producer Greg Nicotero recently explained about the project.

He added, “The actors and the executive producers wanted to make sure that anything we did, we didn’t want it to diminish our story, our storyline, our characters and the momentum that we have. So the intent is that it is going to be its own standalone world.”

As for The Walking Dead, star Andrew Lincoln teased that there’s definitely something terrible lurking just around the corner during the final few episodes of season four. If the mid-season finale left you breathless, then you should definitely prepare yourself for the absolute worst. The series returns to the cable network on February 9.
