Robocop Reboot Video Released: Omnicorp Reveals Crime Fighting Breakthrough in 2027

The film production team responsible for the reboot of Robocop has released a new teaser clip to give fans a glint of what can be expected in the upcoming film.

The 2:25 second short centers around the multinational conglomerate, OmniCorp. The year is 2027, and the massive technology company is conducting a mock Consumer Entertainment Show. The keynote presentation focuses on the big reveal of their latest technological breakthrough in crime fighting.

The reboot is derived from the 1987 classic science fiction action film of the same title. The film stars Safe House actor Joel Kinnaman in the famous lead role of Alex Murphy, which was originally played by Peter Weller. In addition to Kinnaman, the reboot features a star-studded cast with the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley.

According to the NME, the Robocop synopsis reads, “In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it.”

“When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.”

The reboot was directed by Brazilian film director José Padilha on an estimated budget of approximately $120 million. Filming began September 24, 2012. Filming locations include, Toronto, Ontario, and Detroit, MI. The Robocop reboot will go to UK cinemas on February 7, 2014. The film was hit United States theaters on February 12, 2014.
