Candace Cameron Bure Encourages Wives To Be Submissive

Candace Cameron Bure is encouraging women to be submissive to their husbands. The actress said she “takes joy in serving” her husband as outlined in the Bible. Although her opinion may be unusual, Bure said it keeps her marriage strong.

The former Full House actress said “marriage is an equal partnership.” However, she believes men and women have different responsibilities within a marriage. In her opinion, a “godly wife” must submit to her husband as “the authority figure.”

Bure’s discusses her philosophy in her new book Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose. The book offers advise to women who struggle with balancing their family, marriage, and career.

As a devout Christian, Bure’s advice is based on her religious beliefs. In an interview with Fox News, the actress explains that she often turns to the Bible for marital advice. Bure said she has a strong personality and can be opinionated. However, assuming a submissive role helps her husband “feel respected as the man” in their marriage.

Candace Cameron Bure is aware that her views may be considered “old fashioned” but she said she enjoys “serving” her husband:

“By respecting my husband, and submitting to him as the authority figure in our family–as he should be–my actions have helped to win him over… submission is not a foul word. I don’t become a slave to my husband’s every demand… Val doesn’t take advantage of me, but rather gains respect for me… This chain of command not only nurtures respect one to another, it also pleases the Lord… ”

In her Christian Women Online article, Bure said society assumes men and women are equal in all ways. Although she acknowledges that men and women were created equally, she said their roles, as defined in the Bible, are quite different.

Candace Cameron Bure and her husband Val have been married for 17 years. They are the parents of three children.
