Bristol Palin Draws Controversy For Defending Duck Dynasty Star Phil Robertson

Bristol Palin stepped up to defend Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson after his controversial comments about gays and blacks got him suspended from his hit reality show, but now it’s Sarah Palin’s daughter who finds herself in the public’s crosshairs.

On Friday the daughter of the former Alaska governor joined the chorus of people supporting Robertson after he made disparaging comments about gays in GQ magazine.

In a blog post titled “Leave Phil Robertson Alone,” Bristol Palin wrote:

“I think it’s so hypocritical how the LGBT community expects every single flippen person to agree with their life style. This flies in the face of what makes America great — people can have their own beliefs and own opinions and their own ways of life. Everyone needs to treat others like God would, with love. It goes both ways.”

Later the 23-year-old posted a photo of Robertson on her Facebook page along with the: “I support Phil Robertson and his right to express his faith and his beliefs. Shame on A&E.”

Phil Robertson has been placed in hiatus from A&E after his interview with GQ, during which he called homosexuality unnatural and implied that blacks in the south in the 1960s were not affected by racism.

After her support of Robertson, Bristol Palin found herself a target of criticism. On Twitter, several people noted that the unmarried mother is not fit to make statements about others’ relationships or lifestyles.

Others criticized Bristol for what they viewed as an uninformed opinion.

Bristol Palin and Duck Dynasty supporters may have an uphill battle with their support of Phil Robertson. The Robertson family issued a statement noting that the future of the show is in doubt after Phil’s suspension by A&E.
