John Mayer Talks About Katy Perry’s Chestnuts [Video]
Katy Perry and John Mayer stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres show to spread some holiday cheer. At first Perry spoke about her new album Prism during the first segment, and Mayer “surprised” her for the second half of the show.
That’s when things got a bit interesting. The two admitted that the beginning of their relationship was a bit unorthodox as Mayer was on vocal rest because of his critical vocal-cord problems. The first few months of their relationship Mayer communicated through the use of an iPad.
Perry admitted that they have an unusual relationship because their home is often silent since they’re both saving their voices for appearances and performances. Perry said, “Some days I have to go on complete vocal rest, like no anything, no whispering. Whispering is actually really bad. There’s just a lot of silence in our house most of the time.”
DeGeneres suggested to the delight of the “Who You Love” couple, that they should try out Pictionary, and Perry even suggested that they learn sign language.
Seeing as how candid both Mayer and Perry are a part when they aren’t speaking about their relationship, an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show definitely proved a few awkward moments, especially when Mayer started talking about Katy Perry’s “chestnuts.”
Conversation quickly turned to Mayer and Perry’s video “Who You Love” since they premiered the video on Good Morning America earlier in the week. When DeGeneres compared it to the now famous “Bound 2” video by Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, Perry snapped back playfully that their video is more realistic because her hair is blowing in the right direction as opposed to Kardashian’s.
That’s when discussion of chestnuts came into the candid segment, as Mayer referenced Perry’s insight, “This is why voice rest is just fine. You get these chestnuts.” The comment clearly confused both Perry and DeGeneres, as both looked like they thought he was referencing something else entirely.
