Playwright Legend Arthur Laurents Dead At 93


Arthur Laurents was a legend on Broadway and in Hollywood, writing such classics as West Side Story, Gypsy, The Way Were and The Turning Point, unfortunately we have learned that he died on Thursday at the age of 93.

According to his agent Jonathan Lomma, Laurents died peacefully in his sleep at his New York City home.

During his career he won two Tony Awards for his 1968 book “Hallelujah, Baby!” and for best director of a musical in 1984 for “La Cage aux Folles.”

His biggest hits West Side Story and Gypsy were both turned into movies and were nominated but never won Tony Awards.
