Tom Cruise: Acting Is As Hard As Fighting In Afghanistan

Tom Cruise compared acting to fighting in Afghanistan in a recent deposition for his case against Bauer publishing, who ran two stories surrounding his divorce to Katie Holmes that he has accused of being false.

The lawsuit is against Life & Style, after they reported that Cruise had “abandoned” his daughter Suri, who was born in April 2006 to Katie Holmes. Cruise libel suit is worth over $50 million.

During the deposition, which he attended with his lawyers, Cruise admitted claiming that working as an actor, while also not being able to see his daughter, was like fighting in a war in Afghanistan.

Cruise apparently remarked,“That’s what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal.”

The actor then went on to state, “There is a difficult physical stamina and preparation. Sometimes I’ve spent months, a year, and sometimes two years preparing for a single film.”

As well as comparing his profession to a soldier on tour in Middle East, Cruise also explained, “A sprinter for the Olympics, they only have to run two races a day. When I’m shooting, I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day.”

The deposition also saw it come to light that, at one point, Suri didn’t see her father for over 100 days during his split from Holmes, who he was married to for over five years.

However, it was confirmed that Cruise at least spoke to her on the phone throughout this period though, and that the duo have a close relationship.

In the documents Cruise states:

The assertion that I ‘abandoned’ Suri after my divorce is patently false. I have in no way cut Suri out of my life, whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise.

He added:

Suri and I saw each other in person in July, August, November and December 2012.

But even during the times when I was working overseas and was not able to see Suri in person,we were (and continue to be) extremely close.

Cruise then concluded:

We spoke on the phone nearly every day, and I regularly asked for and received updates concerning her friends and school life, which I then discussed with her during our regular phone calls.

As my numerous emails with Suri’s mother during this time period demonstrate, I was a constant presence in Suri’s life during the time that defendants claim falsely that I abandoned her.
