Morbidly obese man found fused to chair, dies

A 43-year-old Bellaire, Ohio man has died after police discovered him living in “deplorable conditions,” fused to a chair by urine and feces.

The man, who was treated at a local hospital but later died, has not been identified by police in the media. Jim Chase, a local code enforcer, commented on the conditions in the home to ABC:

“The chair was very filthy, a lot of odor to it. Going in the house, the house was not clean. The living room where the man lived in his chair was very filthy, very deplorable. It’s unbelievable that somebody lives in conditions like that…”

Firefighters who responded to the scene also reported that there were “visible maggots” on the man. Aside from the man’s girlfriend, who brought him food and soda as he increasingly became immobile, the only contact the man had was with his landlord. The landlord says that the man’s state was concealed by a blanket during visits, and in previous years, the deceased had been healthy and vital.

In a similar case a few years back in Florida, a morbidly obese woman died after becoming fused to a sofa.
