Robert De Niro Puts A Dramatic Spin On ‘Wrecking Ball’

Robert De Niro and Miley Cyrus may be kindred spirits.

The 70-year-old actor sat down for a promotional interview to support his new film, Last Vegas, but ended up getting talked into doing a dramatic reading of Miley’s song “Wrecking Ball.”

It could be because the two are worlds apart — De Niro with his Hollywood gravitas and Miley with her twerking — but for whatever reasons, Bob struggled to capture the pain and angst of Miley’s hit song. He read it so quickly it was difficult to get any emotion out of the reading… or maybe he just wanted to get it over with.

After all, De Niro has a distinguished career to hold up. Aside from his spot in Last Vegas, De Niro just took over James Gandolfini’s role in Criminal Justice. And just this year Robert De Niro was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role in Silver LiningsPlaybook, though the award ended up going to Christoph Waltz for Django Unchained.

It wasn’t just Robert De Niro who lended his acting chops to a hit song. The segment, put together by Screen Junkies, also showed Morgan Freeman singing the hit “The Fox” by Ylvis, Kevin Klein taking on the One Direction song “Best Song Ever,” and Michael Douglas trying his hand at the viral hit and Rebecca Black-esque “Chinese Food.”
