Loki Will Be Bisexual In Upcoming Marvel Book
Thor’s brother Loki will undergo a significant character shift in upcoming Marvel comic books which will affect his sexuality.
Loki, Thor’s brother and nemesis in the Marvel Comics universe, will be the focus of the company’s upcoming Loki: Agent of Asgard which will be published in 2014. The actual Norse mythology on the character holds that he is “a cunning trickster who had the ability to change his shape and sex.”
The comic’s writer Al Ewing is planning on implementing these features into the book, and said that the character’s sexuality will reflect that. “Yes, Loki is bi and I’ll be touching on that. He’ll shift between genders occasionally as well,” Ewing said on his Tumblr blog.
Loki is probably best known in popular culture thanks to actor Tom Hiddleston’s portrayal of the character in 2011’s Thor, 2012’s The Avengers, and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World which opens November 6.
Though Loki’s sexuality is not depicted in the films, Hiddelston admitted that he’d like to see a love interest introduced for his character in a future Marvel film. Possibly, he hopes, the Marvel comics villainess The Enchantress.
Hiddleston told TotalFilm:
“When I was first reading the comics, the relationship with the Enchantress was one of the really fun things I thought would be good to explore, and I may have even pitched it to Kevin Feige at some point. Because she is as sneaky and as untrustworthy as he was.
“They basically had a really fantastic and twisted relationship until they both say, ‘You know what? I don’t trust you as far as I can throw you. It’s over’. Because they keep betraying each other, in a way. So it could be good.”
Though Hiddleston didn’t consider that his characters could possibly be bisexual, he joked that the Loki or Norse mythology was probably into bestiality.
“I mean, Sleipnir is one of his children. Did you know that? Odin’s eight-legged horse in the mythology is one of Loki’s children. As is Fenrir the wolf.”
Do you think that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki should get a love interest in an upcoming Marvel film? Could he evolve into a bisexual character?
