Prince George Arrives At Christening Ceremony With Prince William [Photo]

Prince George arrived for his christening ceremony on Wednesday at St. James Palace, in the arms of his father, Prince William and , Clarence House shared on Twitter.

This is the first public photo of the future King of England while awake, all previous ones have shown him in his swaddle, peacefully sleeping.

Whether that was intentional, so he wouldn’t fuss for the family photos or not, we can’t say, but in this shot from today’s big day Prince George is looking like any happy, plump three-month-old infant should.

Wearing the traditional christening gown, the baby Prince arrived in the arms of dad, the Duke of Cambridge, who was all dressed up in a dark suit, crisp white shirt, and light blue tie.

Mom, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge looked very elegant in a cream-colored skirt suit with a ruffled jacket, which she paired with a matching hat.

According to Us Magazine, a source says the couple is “very excited”.

As to whether baby George cooperated on his special day, another source tells the magazine, “Prince George has been good as gold today.”

The royal christening gown Prince George is seen wearing was originally made in 1841 for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Victoria.

However, this is only a replica, the original was retired by Queen Elizabeth II in 2008 in order to preserve it and was used in every royal christening up until then.

Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton were not chosen as godparents as reported earlier by The Inquisitir, but they delivered two readings, chosen by William and Kate, during Prince George’s christening.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also chose two anthems to be sung by The Choir of Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal, one of which was written for William’s christening on August 4, 1982, according to princeofwales.gov.uk

In attendance were about 50 guests which included Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and wife Camilla, Carole and Michael Middleton, Prince Harry, and Pippa Middleton.

In a departure from traditional baptisms, and as is becoming the norm for William and Kate, the ceremony was private and only the closest friends and family were invited. Many members of the royal family were not present for Prince George’s christening.

This also marked the first time since 1894 that a picture of a reigning monarch and three heirs to the throne will be taken. At the time, future King Edward VIII held by Queen Victoria with his father George V and grandfather Edward VII were photographed.

Jason Bell will snap the historic photo of Prince George, Prince William, Prince Charles, and Queen Elizabeth II. More pictures of the event will be available on Thursday according to Clarence House.
