National Drink Beer Day VS. Oktoberfest 2013

As you know by now today is national drink beer day in America. Not only does that mean that you can drink beer today, along with many others, without it weighing heavily on your conscience, but also that a lot of bars and pubs are selling beer today, cut-price.

But how does America’s national drink beer day compare to Oktoberfest in Munich, which is the largest beer festival in the world? Well for starters, us Americans only get one NDBD (national drink beer day), whereas the Oktoberfest in Germany lasts for a full 16 days.

The Oktoberfest in Germany has a long and rich history. In fact, it originated as a celebration for King Ludwig’s wedding, where members of the public were invited.

Back in the olden days, the festival gained such popularity that it was turned into an annual tradition. As many as six million beer lovers travel to Munich yearly to take part in the festival.

Drinking beer might not be quite as important to Americans as it is to Germans. Nevertheless, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans will be enjoying cheap beer today at one of the many pubs and bars participating in the event.

There are also a host of eateries around the country which will offer five-course meals, mini-fairs, beer-tasting contests and whole range of other similar activities to celebrate the day.

It is of course advisable to drink responsibly, despite the temptation to overdo it. After all national drink beer day comes but once a year. Just make sure that if you are drinking today, you certainly are NOT driving.
