‘Doctor Who’ 50th Anniversary: BBC To Feature Teasers Tonight

The Doctor Who 50th anniversary special will be featured in teasers before and after tonight’s episode.

BBC One will drop some hints during the episode tonight entitled “Atlantis,” intentionally teasing the special now known as “The Day of the Doctor.”

The Doctor, you might be asking? Doctor who? Exactly. The long-running science fiction TV show has one of the highest followings of all time, as the actor playing the role of the Time Lord has changed probably more often than that of James Bond. Of course every time Doctor Who switches actors, it is explained that the Doctor has come to the point of death and regenerated with a new appearance, voice, and everything.

The ident and hashtag used to build up to the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode will be revealed during stingers immediately before and after tonight’s episode, but you will most likely read about the updates right here on The Inquisitr as well.

Why is the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special such a big deal? For starters, the show has been around for 50 years, making it the longest-running science fiction series of all time. Also the special episode is said to feature appearances from Matt Smith, Billie Piper, and David Tennant for the transition, or passing of the torch, from the current Doctor to the Time Lord’s newest incarnation.

Tonight’s episode will also feature a trailer for the upcoming special, making it one of those “don’t miss” events for fans of the series. The team behind the trailer for “The Day of the Doctor” are saying, “It’s never been seen before and is currently in post-production. Bold, brilliant and unexpected, it promises to be an ideal way to look forward to the big day.”

The stingers are expected to be posted online after tonight’s episode, and the trailer will no doubt make it to YouTube in some form, but if you want to be one of the first to see it, catch the episode tonight on BBC One.
