Laguna Niguel Shooting: Police Kill Man Who Stabbed His Mother And Roommate

A Laguna Niguel shooting brought an abrupt end to an attack that left three people stabbed including a sheriff’s deputy.

Police shot and killed a 21-year-old suspect who they say attacked two people and then stabbed an Orange County sheriff’s deputy in both arms when police responded.

The incident took place Tuesday evening after deputies responded to a call about a stabbing. Police said the suspect, Connor Bishop Zion, had stabbed his roommate and mother. He then attacked a deputy before another deputy opened fire, killing Zion.

“During the response to the call for service, one deputy was attacked by the suspect and another deputy shot and fatally wounded the assailant,” Lt. Jeff Hallock said.

The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for his injuries, which were not considered life-threatening. The conditions of the other two stabbing victims were not immediately clear.

Witnesses to the Lagnua Niguel shooting described a sudden and chaotic scene.

“We just heard some police come in with their tires screeching and everything, then we heard a little bit of yelling after that, and then a whole [magazine] go off of the bullets, one after another, nonstop,” resident Yobani Salas told KABC-TV.

Police said they are unsure of a motive for the initial attack.

The scene of the police shooting seems a bit unusual. Laguna Niguel is an affluent, master planned community in southern Orange County, California. The city is known for its low crime rates, and only had six murders over the course of the last decade.

The Orange County district attorney’s office said it is investigating the Laguna Niguel shooting as it does with all deputy-involved shootings.
