Katie Couric Replacing Barbara Walters On ‘The View’ [Rumor]

Katie Couric may be replacing Barbara Walters on The View.

Walters recently announced that she would be retiring and ABC will soon start looking for a new leading lady to anchor the long running talk show. Couric currently has her own talk show but rumor has it that Katie will be getting axed after its second season.

If that’s true, Couric would be available to fill the huge shoes left behind by Walters.

The NY Daily News writes: “One tipster says network honchos believe the timing is perfect for a switcheroo — as soon as Walters decides to go, Couric could seamlessly step in,with the network making it look like Babs had appointed her own successor.”

A source said that network executives want to cancel Katie but they also don’t want to embarrass Couric. If the timing works out right, the producers can make it look like they are ending Katie, not because of low ratings, but because Couric is moving on to bigger and better things at The View.

The source suggests that Couric might even join The View this year as soon as Katie comes to an end.

The source said: “Execs are so concerned about publicly humiliating Katie by canceling her show in the middle of her second season that they want to put her on ‘The View’ this year to slide into Barbara’s chair.. The feeling across the board is that Katie is rejected by audiences when she is alone, but on a panel show she’s incredible, and even not liking her can work in the show’s favor and her favor.”

Do you think Katie Couric would be a good replacement for Barbara Walters?

Don’t get too excited just yet. Walters said that there is absolutely no truth to the rumor.

Barbara said: “I love Katie and we are good friends… She is always welcome as a guest on The View and I was recently a guest on her show, but there is no truth to the rumor that she will be taking my place on The View.”
