Roller Coaster Reopening At Six Flags Texas, Is It Safe?

The Giant roller coaster at the Six Flags Over Texas Amusement Park is set to reopen this weekend, having been closed for two months following the death on the ride of Rosa Esparza On July 19.

The Amusement Park confirmed in a statement released yesterday that new and improved safety measures have been put in place for the roller coaster’s reopening.

The improved safety measures will see new seat belts fitted in the roller coaster, and newly designed restraint bar pads. It is hoped that the ride will now be safer for visitors, who can check how well they fit in a seat before they ride.

Coinciding with the reopening of the Texas roller coaster is a $1 million lawsuit, filed by Esparza’s family against Six Flags for negligence.

According to the lawsuit the victim’s daughter heard her mother screaming and turned around to see her being thrown out of the car. Esparza died from “traumatic injuries” caused by her landing on a metal roof below.

The lawsuit continues: “As Rosa Esparza’s tragic death starkly illustrates, errors on the part of the Six Flags Defendants turned a thrilling illusion into a nightmarish reality.” The lawsuit says. “Customers of the park expect mock scares and delighted screams as they ride the Texas Giant roller-coaster, but they certainly do not expect to be placed in any real danger, whatsoever.”

The Texas roller coaster reopening has been approved by State officials who are satisfied that the ride has undergone suitable safety upgrades which deem it safe for use.
