Statue Defaced In Brooklyn: “Heil Hitler” Daubed On Jackie Robinson

The Jackie Robinson statue in Brooklyn has been defaced with racist words and pro-Nazi quotes.

The disgusting racial slurs were discovered on the statue, which honors baseball player Jackie Robinson, along with Pee Wee Reese, on Wednesday morning. It appears the graffiti was put there some time in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Jackie Robinson suffered a huge amount of racism, when he played in the Major league back in 1947. In those days racist comments, even said openly against blacks and other ethnic groups, were commonplace and even accepted by the general public.

The statue defacement in Brooklyn, outside the MCU Park on Coney Island, is a stark reminder of the kind of hate and racial feelings that are prevalent insome circles in the United States

The words that were written on the statue are highly offensive, not only to black people, but also to Jews, as they reference pro-Nazi sentiments.

After the discovery of the graffiti on the defaced statue, officials from the Brooklyn Cyclones began to remove the swastikas and racial slurs. Billy Harner, Director Of Communications for the Cyclones, said the team officials:

“Went into action to try to clean it and remove the graffiti. We have video surveillance of the area, we’re looking at the tapes to investigate exactly what took place.”

The ‘Symbol of tolerance’ statue was defaced with highly offensive words, as the New York Daily News reports:

“A manager at MCU Park stumbled upon the defaced statue about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, cops said. Among the hate-filled messages written in black marker on the monument to Robinson and his Brooklyn Dodgers team mate Pee Wee Reese were: “Heil Hitler,” “Die n—-r,” “F–k n—-r” and “F–k Jackie Robinson.”
