What should Brad Childress do now?

Ok let us start with this; a Head Coach’s job is to put his team in the best position to win the game each and every week. He has to put all other considerations out of his head and choose which is better move to help his team win the game. That leaves Chilly with two options allow Brett Favre to start or turn the team over to Tavaris Jackson and let teh dice fall where they may.

Of course since we are all humans other things considerations play into this decision. Chilly may feel the need to put Favre in his place, dare him to go to management and request a coaching change if Chilly benches him ending his consecutive start streak. I think we could all understand if Childress decided that was his best course of action.

Ultimately this decision means nothing for the Vikings of 2010. It seems very likely at this point that both men will not be with the team come 2011. Chilly may feel a strong urge to put Favre in his place and prove to his next owner that he is capable of making a tough choice and living with the consequences.

If Favre did not have that consecutive starting streak this would be a no brainer. I don’t think that Childress wants to be the guy to end that streak much like no one wanted to be the guy to finally sit Cal Ripken Jr.’s streak in baseball. However Favre is a player in dire need of being put in his place. If Chilly benches him he can only blame himself. Had he not been such a diva maybe more people would be pulling for him to start.
