Family Zimmerman Rescued Backs Out Of Press Conference

The family George Zimmerman rescued from a traffic accident last Thursday has backed out of a press conference. It was scheduled for today, but a fear of “blow back” from the incident, according to ABC News, caused the cancellation. Mark and Dana Gerstle decided against the media appearance and contacted Zimmerman attorney Mark O’Mara hours in advance to cancel. The rescue, which O’Mara described as “just George being George”, happened at the intersection of I-4 and Route 46. The Port Orange family is leery of what may happen to them if they come out and say good things about the freshly acquitted Zimmerman They feel it ‘would be toxic’ to do so.

According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, the Gerstles said, “They are not comfortable doing interviews at this time and they continue to ask for privacy.” In a statement, O’Mara felt that if the family “addressed the media in an organized way,” that it would aid them in getting back to their normal life. O’Mara said “their voices were trembling” when he spoke to the family Zimmerman rescued on the phone. The attorney stressed how fearful the family was. He also alluded to the numerous threats against Zimmerman and his family. He even said he felt the the threats were enough reason for Zimmerman to be armed again. Later, O’Mara insinuated that maybe Zimmerman should “leave the country”.

Since the verdict, Zimmerman has been in hiding. Also, according to Yahoo, the crash occurred about one mile away from where the fatal confrontation took place between he and Trayvon Martin in February 2012. Zimmerman and another man assisted the family on the scene. The two men removed the family of four from the vehicle. Zimmerman left after briefly speaking to police.

Does this change any perceptions of Zimmerman? Will the family Zimmerman rescued break their silence?
