‘Game Of Thrones’ Panel Pays Tribute To Dead Characters … With Boyz II Men [Video]

Game of Thrones kicked off its Comic-Con panel this year with a video tribute to all the characters who have died over the course of three seasons. Producers set the clip to the Boyz II Men hit “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye To Yesterday,” which pretty much guarantees the video will go viral.

You can watch the video above, but if you read on from this point, you will be subjected to SPOILERS.

Fans of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series have known for years that the celebrated author has a penchant for killing off everyone’s favorite characters, seemingly without discretion.

He has explained that he does this because he wants you involved in the story. He wants you to be afraid that your favorite character will fall off the next page forever.

He is also committed to realism, at least as much as he is allowed within the confines of the fantasy genre. And real life… sucks. The liars often get away with it and the just are often discredited, punished, even put to death by life’s bullies.

Fans exclusive to the show probably knew that they were in for one hell of a ride at the end of Season 1 when the show’s main character was executed in the second-to-last episode. The season finale justly left the audience in much the same place most of the characters were – without direction. But captivated, for sure.

Then came Season 3 and the Red Wedding. The bad guys had very firmly won and the good guys had very ignobly (even embarrassingly) lost. What the heck is going on with this f***ing show? You’ll have to hang on until Season 4 for answers (and even a little redemption).

Until then, watch the Game of Thrones “in memoriam” video above, try to hold those tears in as Boyz II Men croon, and pour one out for your favorite characters. Also, you might learn a few names while you’re at it.
