Missing Mom Found Alive After 52 Years

A missing mom was found alive after 52 years. Lucy Johnson vanished from her Surrey, British Columbia home in 1961. Her husband was considered a suspect in her murder.

Johnson mysteriously disappeared in 1961. However, her husband Melvin did not report her missing until 1965. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police doubted his story, naming him a suspect in her disappearance.

As reported by Surrey Leader, neighbors allegedly observed Melvin digging in his yard before he reported his wife missing. Detectives eventually excavated the Johnson’s yard, but Lucy’s body was never found.

Linda Johnson Evans was around eight years old when her mother disappeared. He explains that her mother simply “vanished into thin air.”

Canadian police decided to run a story about Johnson’s cold case in a local newspaper. The story appeared in the June 28 edition of Surrey Leader. The article prompted Evans to do her own research.

Evans placed an ad in an Alaska newspaper, as her mother is a native of the Yukon. The ad stated that Lucy Johnson had been missing since 1961. It included an old picture, her place of birth, and information about her family.

As a result of the ad, the missing mom was found alive after 52 years.

Evans received numerous phone calls and e-mails from people who knew her mother. Lucy is now 77-years-old and living in the Yukon. Lucy eventually married another man and had four more children.

As reported by NBC News, Evans is not angry with her mother. Despite the years of uncertainty, she is thrilled that her mother is alive. She hopes her mother will accept her as part of her new family.

Evans is saving money for a trip to the Yukon to reunite with her missing mom, who she finally found after 52 years. She is also looking forward to meeting her sister and three brothers.
