Republican Party Chairman Saves Woman From Burning Car

South Dakota’s Republican Party Chairman saved a woman crash victim by pulling her from a burning car last week, according to a report from KELOland.com.

South Dakota GOP Chairman Craig Lawrence was returning from his cabin in northern Minnesota when he witnessed an approaching car lose control.

In comments to the news station’s website, Lawrence said, “She’s coming at me and we are going to pass, but she’s distracted obviously on a perfectly clear day, goes in the ditch, and then does what we’re not suppose to do,” Lawrence said, motioning that the woman over-corrected and lost control. “It’s like the Indy 500 and this car rolls about six times right down the center of the highway into the ditch and it’s on fire.”

Despite the blaze, Lawrence stopped to help, but faced a struggle in opening the driver’s side door. Running to the other side, he noticed “another guy had come along,” and together, the two men “ripped on the door until it went open.”

The woman was initially unconscious from the vehicle’s impact, but started coming to as Lawrence raced to remove her from the burning vehicle.

“She’s screaming while I do it, even though she doesn’t remember anything. She’s screaming and I’m saying, ‘I’m sorry, but if I don’t pull you out, I know it’s going to hurt, but you’re going to die,'” Lawrence said.

Once the man and the Republican Party Chairman had saved the woman from the burning car, they dragged her 60 feet to safety.

“Two minutes after we get her out of the car, the flames were in the driver’s seat,” Lawrence said, insisting he’s not a hero and crediting adrenaline for helping him to do “what anyone else would have done in the face of danger. “This 4th of July, I was thankful for all the people. Excuse me; I’m still emotional about it. I’m thankful for all the people in South Dakota who have made those kind of decisions over the years,” Lawrence said.

The 19-year-old woman suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Here’s Lawrence’s firsthand account:

In addition to the Republican Party Chairman, who saved the woman in Minnesota, there have been quite a few heroic true stories as of late. On Thursday, The Inquisitr reported on a 22-year-old woman, who was able to lift a 5,600-pound Jeep that had fallen on her father, pinning him to the ground.

And today, we shared the amazing feat of a man, who swam for five straight hours to save family members stranded by a storm.

Have you ever been in a situation like the Republican Party Chairman, who saved the woman, or the other two cases mentioned above? How do you think you would respond?
